Our whole school came together to celebrate National Tree Planting Day by planting two new trees in our school grounds. Junior and Senior Infants planted a Scots Pine, while First and Second Class planted an oak tree.
Each year, National Tree Day in Ireland celebrates a different native tree and this year the focus was on the Scots Pine. Although our new trees may be small now, with sunlight, water and care, they will grow stronger and taller over the years.
As they grow, our trees will provide shelter for birds, insects and other wildlife, support biodiversity and add to the natural beauty of our school environment.
Planting these trees was also a wonderful opportunity to think about the future. We hope they will continue to grow for many years to come, allowing future generations of pupils to enjoy them and see how much they have changed over time. By planting these trees, we have made a small but meaningful contribution to protecting nature and caring for our environment.
A big thank you to all the children and staff who helped make this day so special. Together, we have taken a positive step towards a greener future and made a promise to plant them, protect them and watch them grow!
